When I made up my mind to change my weight by making lifestyle changes, I made sure to plan for no distractions. I chose a week I knew I’d have a week off and would be staying at home. I changed my eating habits and started going to the gym. I wanted to give myself the best possible start I could. I made up a plan for when I’d be working back to back 12 hour night shifts.

Except now it will be four 12 hour shifts in a row. What’s my plan? I’m going to bed by 1:30 today (benadryl to the rescue) and waking up at 5:30. Get ready for work, pack several meals and snacks. Eat 1/3 cup scrambled egg whites with half a bagel, some type of fruit, and coffee before heading off to work. 8pm - snack of WW string cheese and a 100 calorie pack of wheat thins. 10pm break - 4 oz milk with 1/2 cup cheerios and 1 banana. 1am - snack of 100 cal chocolate covered pretzels. 3am break - some frozen entree and fruit. 6 am oatmeal with 1 tbsp peanut butter. All to be repeated over the next 3 days. I may change up the banana with another fruit or add a salad to eat with the entree, but it should get me through the next 4 shifts.

Saturday will probably be my last day at the gym until Monday evening. Those 12 hour shifts are brutal, and I spend most of it walking or running. Very rarely are we sitting. Aside from our two 15 minute, and one 30 minute break we are pretty much on our feet. Thankfully I’m usually so busy that I don’t notice my feet until about 6 am. Rarely do I log less than 15,000 steps on my pedometer per shift. So I don’t plan on beating myself up if I miss one or two days at the gym.

I tend to overeat when I’m tired, but I feel good going into this knowing I have a plan. And for that evil temptress (actually very lovely) Barbara with her brownies, cakes, and trifles - PHOOEY ON YOU!!!!! I’m bringing my own chocolate treats. So there.

Wish me well. Send good thoughts my way.

You have a great plan there. Wow, 12 hour shifts sounds brutal but you can certainly stick to your goals.

    Good luck!
